The season kicks off tomorrow. Where will you be?
This year like every year should be exciting. Returners come with the momentum of last year. Wrestlers who fell short trained over the summer. Kids mysteriously "figure it out". New postgrads come in. Freshman athletes adapt. This year, we also have a new weight system. How teams will stack and adapt to the new weight cutting rules will be a new change.
For alums like me, the new season is a chance to watch how wrestlers have matured over the summer and see that maturity grow during the season. An observation made in a Title IX arguement that I have seen is that wrestling is the only sport that doesn't discriminate against sex, race, height, weight, or disability. It is the only sport open to everyone and anyone with the heart to learn the art of grappling. Morever, like any sport, it is a path to push a person's mental and physical limits and train them for the real world. Learn to appreciate the victories that you have and the losses that you attain. Because in the end, they will all be learning experiences.
Well enough of the mushy stuff, a few notes that people care about. We'll update the rankings soon and we'll start with all of our preseason buzz. I am proud to say that we have a very willing and eager staff this year handling the news and we'll do our best to keep wrestling the lively sport that it is.
As always, we still need help on this website. If you are interested in giving a hand, please email -email-.
